LG Viewty KU990 has made a mark with its simplistic looks and advanced features. The device has a status of its own and leaves the owner mesmerised at its amazing capabilities. The prodigy, design and capability of the phone make it quite an extraordinary gadget.

The handset works on 2G and 3G networks and that imparts a world of possibilities to the LG KU990 Viewty. The handset is given an extraordinary dimension of 103.5 x 54.4 x 14.8 mm and it weighs 112 gms. So, with such a dimension, the mobile easily slides into one’s pocket. The display of the screen is kept at 240 x 400 pixels resolution and the screen also supports 256 K colours. So, it becomes possible to view the pictures and videos with clarity. In fact, the screen is the most precious part of the Viewty and without it, the processing or accessing of functionalities would become impossible. It is due to the presence of this screen that one can enjoy wallpapers and pictures, play fascinating games and watch video clips in the handset. The screen also optimises the internet surfing experience. The user can use the screen to view websites while surfing and download files that are required. The screen usage is extended to sending and receiving messages though the keypad plays a vital role in this action. The key features of LG KU990 Viewty are its WAP browser, camera, MP3 player and FM radio. The browser surfs websites on the internet with high speed and opens up sites for the viewer to study.

The websites provide information on the latest happenings, news, entertainment, music and video files. So, the WAP browser can be used to find these files that can later be downloaded and stored in the memory of the mobile. The memory also serves with its expanded capacity to store images and videos that are captured by its 5 MP camera. This camera gives a resolution of 2592 х 1944 pixels and can be used to record footage of a video clip. This phone works on 3G networks and so has a secondary camera that is specifically meant for the purpose of making video calls. Any music file can be played with the aid of the music player that runs songs on formats such as MP3, MPEG4, WMV, AAC and DivX. Playing music is not just a priority of the music player. The integrated FM radio is also competent enough to keep the user entertained by playing songs, music numbers along with giving updates on news and events.

The handset is useful for messaging and keeps the user intimated with emails, SMS and MMS. With this mobile, it becomes very simple for the user to send and receive attachments in various formats such as DOC, XLS, PDF. These formats can easily be decoded by the document viewer that shows up the files its original text form or image form. The memory of the Viewty is 500 MB shared one that can further be extended. The Li- Ion battery of the mobile gives a standby time of 430 hr and a talktime of 4 hr. Connectivity is ascertained by GPRS, EDGE, 3G,Bluetooth and USB.

“The prodigy, design and capability of the phone make it quite an extraordinary gadget.”
=> yes, a gadget, as the “c” button is a so wrong idea, and more again is the way it’s used when when typing, more again knowing that the antenna in this phone is on the BOTTOM, behind the 3 keys, just under the hand (see manual).

“In fact, the screen is the most precious part of the Viewty and without it, the processing or accessing of functionalities would become impossible.”
=> it’s also the weakest part of this phone, with a not so good response.

“It is due to the presence of this screen that one can enjoy wallpapers and pictures, play fascinating games and watch video clips in the handset.”
=> except that only a few games work with the touch screen, meaning that you have to use ridiculous “virtual” buttons to play… when 4 arrows are anough !

“The screen also optimises the internet surfing experience. The user can use the screen to view websites while surfing and download files that are required.”
=> you can only download a file if it’s a direct link, no right click and no menu means impossible to save a picture from a webpage for example.

“The browser surfs websites on the internet with high speed and opens up sites for the viewer to study.”
=> only with a 3G+ network, otherwise it’s really slow, more again with 2 pages opened.

“the music player that runs songs on formats such as MP3, MPEG4, WMV, AAC and DivX.”
=> just mentionning that VIDEOS at format Xvid are not readable on the LG Viewty (only DivX), it’s sad.

“With this mobile, it becomes very simple for the user to send and receive attachments in various formats such as DOC, XLS, PDF.”
=> when browsing, it’s impossible to send those files, only pictures, videos, sounds and flash (swf) files, no DOC or PDF (and that’s a shame).

“The memory of the Viewty is 500 MB shared one that can further be extended.”
=> false, its memory is about 120-130MB only, but it accepts MicroSD cards up to 2GB (no MicroSD HC, unluckely).

“The Li- Ion battery of the mobile gives a standby time of 430 hr and a talktime of 4 hr.”
=> talktime is 3h30 at best, including calls, browsing, music/radio/video playing… and half this if using the flash to take photos !

I’ll finish mentionning that as most of the actual phones, the screen has a very bad quality and response while under the day light, what is more disturbing again when you have to type a phone number or a sms… for this i myself use an old Sagem with damn real keys !

I chose this phone to enjoy a mobile internet connection and “real” camera, but 5Mpix is just a size, not a quality proof, and browsing experience on a mibile phone will long remain far from a real internet connection, even with a 3G USB on a laptop.

the most prominent feature of this phone which i think is its 5MP camera and the ability to play DIVx files because not every phone has these two features.
